The official date of Earth Day is April 22nd. However in the Philippines, Earth Day events are often scheduled on the weekends before or after Earth Day. Several NGO’s, LGU’s and businesses celebrate Earth Week, the week surrounding April 22nd, or even Earth Month – the entire month of April. Regardless of when you hold your celebration, remember that “Earth Day is Every Day for Everybody”.
Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared April 22 as the “Philippines’ Earth Day” through Presidential Proclamation No. 1481 amending Presidential Proclamation Nos. 553 and 1276 making Earth Day a permanent environmental holiday in the Philippines.
Finally, Earth Day is celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities. More than a billion people participate in Earth Day activities each year. (See Earth Day Historical Background)
